DEFUSING THE FAT BOMB – HELP FOR WEIGHT LOSS.
Australia is now the fattest nation in the world, and it’s now time to focus on health and weight loss. A report by the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute in Melbourne entitled “Australia’s Future Fat Bomb” found that almost four million adult Australians are obese. This figure represents 26 percent of Australia’s population and is one percent more than the United States.
The report also showed that if obesity isn’t addressed now, over the next twenty years there will be an extra 700,000 cardiovascular related hospitalisations. Over the same 20 year period, the Institute also predicts that an estimated 123,000 people will die due to cardiovascular disease as a result of their obesity.
Are you overweight or obese?
The easiest way to work out whether or not you fall into the obese range is by measuring your Body Mass Index (BMI). If your BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9 you are in the healthy weight range. If your BMI is between 25 and 29.9 you are overweight, and if your BMI is over 30 you fall into the obese category. The great news is that if you are overweight or obese, you can take charge of your life and turn it around today ,and start on your personal weight loss journey . The best way to do that is to make it really simple to succeed, and what we recommend is not another fad diet. What you need to do is change your mindset, get support, and have all the resources in place so that you can lose weight and keep it off.
BMI Calculator is – your weight in kg divided by your height squared in metres.
Eg. 68 kgs divided by height of 1.7m squared (2.89) that is 1.7 x 1.7 which is a BMI of 23.5.
The Right Mental Attitude.
The first and most important part of any weight loss program is finding enough reasons to stick to your goal. You might want to lose weight because you don’t have the energy to play with your kids. You might want to lose weight to help maintain a healthy heart. Or you might want encourage weight loss so that you can look good on the beach in summer. Whatever reason you have, it better be a strong one and something that will keep you focused on your weight loss goal no matter what comes up.
Buddy up and stay trim.
Tackle your goal of weight loss the same way that you set your goals in business. Find people who have already succeeded in their weight loss program and follow in their footsteps. Spend time with people who are supportive of your weight loss program and your health goals. Find a buddy or a group of people to lose weight with, this will increase your chances of achieving your weight loss dramatically.
You are what you eat.
Chips, meat pies, cake, ice cream, and lollies may temporarily satisfy a hunger craving, but over-eating these foods will make you add on the kilos. When many people think of losing weight, they think they have to starve themselves. This isn’t the case! Your body needs carbohydrates for energy and the best types are complex carbohydrates like bread, pasta and rice. If you consume too many carbohydrates and don’t exercise, then it turns into fat. Protein is also essential as it is used to build new cells, maintain tissues and regulate cell function. Your body also needs fat, which is used to insulate your body, cushion vital organs, and convert into energy. Polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fatty acids, as found in fish, nuts, and vegetable oils, are the best types of fat and should amount to no more than 30 per cent of your total calorie intake.
Get up off the couch
….and run, or walk, or ride, or swim, why not dance. The number of fun activities to achieve weight loss you could participate in are endless. You just need to start moving. Even walking for 30 minutes, three times a week, is enough to get your metabolism going. If walking sounds like a bit of a bore, you should add something to it to give you more incentive. Why not listen to great music or inspiration speakers on your iPod while you walk, or use a pedometer for tracking your step count and see if you can outdo yourself with each walk. Remember weight loss happens one step at a time – literally.
Today’s faced-paced lifestyle leaves little time for planning, preparing and eating complete, nutritionally balanced meals. Dieting can also leave your body without key nutrients. High quality meal replacement drinks and bars are nutritionally sound, kilojoule-controlled meals that contain essential vitamins and minerals often missing in the typical diet.
Why use a Meal Replacement Drink Mix?
Cutting kilojoules often means cutting important nutrients. It’s hard to get all the nutrition your body requires if you’re skipping meals, eating smaller portions, or eating only particular foods. Research shows that the use of meal replacement drinks can be helpful during a weight loss or weight management program. Many people use them effectively to help break the salt or sweet cravings that can be a frequent problem for hunger control.
Who can benefit from a Meal Replacement Drink Mix?
Anyone who:
- May have an inadequate diet, skips meals, eats less than 3 servings of fruit and 5 servings of vegetables per day, and doesn’t have time to prepare a nutritionally balanced meal.
- Is on a weight loss program and is interested in reducing their kilojoules intake.
- Has greater nutritional needs, because of lifestyle or life stage demands. (eg. Sports people, busy adults and the elderly).
